It's not been a very good year for horror to be honest, but there have still been some successful efforts. Ben Wheatley's thoroughly impressive In the Earth, a psychedelic sci-fi horror shot during the pandemic, is easily one of 2021's horror highlights, not to mention one of the most underrated movies of the year.

More than anything else, it represented a return to form for Wheatley after three terrible films (High Rise, Free Fire and Rebecca) in a row and showed him dabbling in the brilliantly creative film-making that made films like Kill List classics, meaning that In the Earth is loaded with incredible cinematic moments.

The best of these is an unforgettable scene in which secondary lead Alma (Elloria Torcha) tries to go through some hallucinogenic mist in a hazmat suit... but the mist gets into the suit and subjects her to terrifying visions.

The following sequence is a masterful feat of psychedelic film-making that'll leave viewers both scared s**tless and utterly enthralled, and it's an absolutely wonderful display of one of Britain's finest film artists at the top of his game.

Without question, this is one of the greatest horror movie moments of the year.
