20 Flawless Scenes From 2021 Movies

10. The Tragedy Of Macbeth - The Witches' Second Visit

The Tragedy of Macbeth, which is Joel Coen's solo directional debut, is disappointingly conventional (considering the director's track record) and it's not the best or most emotional adaptation of the play, but it's still a impressive, visually stunning work overall that has some absolutely incredible moments.

There are quite a few memorable scenes scattered throughout the film, such as the first visit of the Witches, the murder of King Duncan (Brendan Gleeson) and the climax but the finest part of the film overall is the second appearance of the witches.

Thanks to the superb acting from Denzel Washington (as Macbeth) and Kathryn Hunter (who plays all three of the Witches), the amazing cinematography and thoroughly creative staging, this is easily the most potent and effective moment of the film and reaffirms Joel Coen as an absolute master of visual style.

Interestingly, the second visit to the Witches was also the greatest scene of Roman Polanski's Macbeth. Perhaps more than any other Shakespeare play, Macbeth really brings out the best in the directors who tackle it.
