20 Great Movies That Were Accused Of Being Rip-Offs

12. Monsters Inc. (2001)

Pixar, again? So much for the most creative studio in the world, huh? So Monsters Inc. was seen as something of a return to form after the great (but probably not as good as Toy Story) A Bug's Life. In the movie, monsters who live on the other side of children's closets in a fully-functioning world use their terrified screams to power their cities. It's such an original idea that it seems like it must be just that, but who can ignore the 1989 comedy Little Monsters? How Much Of A Rip-Off Are We Talking? In Little Monsters, which starred Fred Savage, the "monsters" in question - one who is blue and sports horns just like Sulley - use the underneath of children's beds to enter a vast underground network, where monsters live. In Monsters Inc., you'll remember, the same premise is used but with closet doors. As with every Pixar film in existence, there were cries of "rip-off!" from several places, but ultimately the two movies are different enough. Overall Rip-Off Rating: 2/5
