20 Great Movies That Were Accused Of Being Rip-Offs

11. Black Swan (2010)

Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan will mostly be remembered as the movie that had Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis making out with each other - not to mention the fact that it also was pretty similar to his previous movie, The Wrestler, only with spectacular ballet scenes instead of scenes featuring a sweaty Micky Rourke going at it with other dudes in a ring. Good as the movie is, though, people picked up on its similarities with Japanese anime Perfect Blue. How Much Of A Rip-Off Are We Talking? This is a rather strange one, to be honest, given that Perfect Blue has nothing to do with ballet at all (it's about a pop star), but still somehow manages to evoke Black Swan in more ways than just "they both have colors in their title." The shared elements include: plots about girls getting pressured a lot, going insane and seeing doubles of themselves, complete with ambiguous endings where audiences are left to wonder whether the main character died. Lots of the shots in Black Swan are framed in the exact way as they are in Perfect Blue, too, so what's going on? Bizarrely, Aronofsky actually owns the rights to Perfect Blue. How? Why? Did he rip it off on purpose? Very odd. Overall Rip-Off Rating: 3/5
