18. Alien (1979)

Is nothing sacred? Yes, even Alien - arguably the greatest horror movie ever made - has come under fire for being "unoriginal," given that it shares a lot of similarities with an old B-movie called It! The Terror From Beyond Space, which - as you can probably gather - also features a plot about an alien doing horrible things to people. What's interesting about this is just how much Alien seems to have taken from It! The Terror From Beyond Space, though... How Much Of A Rip-Off Are We Talking? It's pretty obvious that writer Dan O'Bannon actually took a lot of elements from It! The Terror From Beyond Space, because the entire movie is about a spaceship that lands on a planet, picks up an alien by accident that proceeds to kill the crew one by one, uses the vents to navigate the vessel, and is eventually killed by being sucked out into space. So although Alien is clearly the superior film, we hate to admit that... well, it's kind of a rip-off, isn't it? Kind of. Overall Rip-Off Rating: 4/5
