20 Great Movies That Were Accused Of Being Rip-Offs
17. Finding Nemo (2003)
Finding Nemo is one of Pixar's most popular movies - a fishy flick about fishes getting lost and finding each other in the Australian ocean and stuff. Pixar are renowned for their creative genius, of course, having come up with wildly imaginative plots like those featured in Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Up and A Bug's Life. But just like those movies, Finding Nemo was also subjected to controversy when somebody said: "This is just Pierrot Le Poisson Clown!" How Much Of A Rip-Off Are We Talking? The person that shouted "This is Pierrot Le Poisson Clown!" was actually the author of that work - French writer Franck Le Calvez, who claimed that Pixar stole the idea for Finding Nemo from his 1995 children's book, which also featured an identical little clownfish on an adventure. But there could have been two stories about clownfish, right? They all look alike! True, but just like in Finding Nemo, Le Calvez's story starts out with his own clownfish being left half-orphaned when one of his parents is eaten by a scorpion fish. Something fishy you say, hm? Overall Rip-Off Rating: 3.5/5
