20 Greatest Dance Scenes In Movie History

11. Girl Ballet Hunt - The Band Wagon (1953)

The Girl Ballet Hunt sequence is an example of careful details and planning coming together perfectly to convey a masterpiece in moving art. From Michael Kidd’s choreography to lyricist Alan Jay Lerner’s narrative drive, and Mary Ann Nyberg’s vision for stylistic costuming, this was more than just two people dancing together.

But ultimately, the dance number wouldn’t have been as distinctive without the innovative collaboration of Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse. You would never know that Astaire was in his fifties at the time of doing the Girl Ballet Hunt number because true to form, he carries himself with both elegance and exasperation.

But it’s the underrated Charisse who steals the show for her sizzling performance next to Fred, as sparks almost went off between her and Fred.
