20 Greatest Dance Scenes In Movie History
12. A Lovely Night - La La Land (2016)
La La Land was an achievement in combining both past and present to create a gorgeous movie musical. It features old-fashioned Technicolor and music reminiscent of the golden age of cinema, but is set in modern times with realistic characters and an ending which goes against the typical ‘happily ever after’ scenario. Not everyone loved La La Land, but it will simply be a classic movie in years to come, and nothing can stop that.
There’s no better scene in the movie than after Mia and Sebastian’s second exchange (after their first extremely awkward one at a restaurant). After a party, the two walk to their cars and the romance already begins to blossom. Against the sunset over the neighbourhood of Hollywood, the ‘A Lovely Night’ sequence begins and it is nothing short of perfect.
If not for the stunning backdrop or the fact that it’s all done in one take, the electrifying jazzy score and the charming duo of Mia and Sebastian come together wonderfully to create an enchanting dance sequence. In fact, this scene was so iconic, it became the signature shot of the film which can be seen on every poster.
