20 Greatest Ever Horror Movie Icons

13. Herbert West - Re-Animator (1985)

Herbert West arrives at Miskatonic University, New England to study medicine. He lodges with a fellow medical student called Dan Cain and quickly assembles a laboratory in which he shows Dan his prowess by bringing his dead cat Rufus back to life. This is witnessed by Megan who is Dan's fiancee and also the daughter of the Dean of Medicine. She is horrified at what West has done The Dean bars West and Dan from the medical school due to their actions trying the raise the dead. They creep into the dissection room and reanimate a corpse who kills the Dean, who is re-animated as a zombie and Dr Carl Hill does tests on him that prove he genuinely has come back from the dead. Hill visits Herbert West in order to get the re-animating fluid. Trying to steal credit from Herbert, West decapitates him with a shovel shouting "Plagiarist!" and then re-animates him - head and body. And things only get darker from there. Herbert West is a character who was created by H. P. Lovecraft in a 1922 short story. Jeffry Combs' performance as the deranged genius is one of the best portrayals of a maniacal madman in cinema history. He possesses the right amount of lunacy to make an iconic horror movie star

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
