20 Greatest Movie Blockbusters Of The 21st Century (So Far)

14. Fury Road

George Miller’s belated instalment to his post-apocalyptic sci-fi action series was well worth the wait, as the titular antihero Max Rockatansky (or possibly the Road Warrior’s feral kid, depending on how you read the flick) returned to the screen with bloody, bruising, and brooding aplomb.

Bronson star Tom Hardy’s taciturn, nervy turn as the near-mute hero compliments Charlize Theron’s fearless Furiosa perfectly, and the film gave us instantly iconic villains in the form of the repulsive Immortan Joe and his War Boy. The film also didn’t skimp on the astounding chase scenes we all came for, and although this one had plenty of subtext for film students to read into, it also excelled as a hyper-kinetic, brutally effective chase movie.
