20 Greatest Movie Moments Of The 2010s

6. A Separation: Settlement

A Separation is another one of the decade's greatest movies and manages to be an exceptionally suspenseful, nerve-shredding watch despite it being a domestic drama about a divorce.

A Separation is a film that's absolutely filled with explosive emotion and mercilessly intense argument scenes and it all builds up to this palm-sweating ending; earlier in the film Nader (the husband) was accused of causing Razieh, a woman caring for his ill father, to have a miscarriage and Nader, his now-estranged wife and their daughter show up at the house of the woman and her family in order to pay a settlement (and therefore avoid Nader having to go to prison).

Once they arrive, it turns out Razieh isn't actually sure that Nader did cause the miscarriage, but her husband Hodjat desperately needs the money to pay off his debtors.

What follows is a painfully intense breakdown that honestly feels like watching a scene with an iron fist clamped tightly around your throat and it showcases the film's unreal acting and phenomenal writing at its best. This is, simply put, drama at its finest.
