20 Greatest Movie Psychos Of All Time

15. 'Baby' Jane Hudson - Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

Baby Jane Awesome psycho-old-lady character played by Bette Davis. When she was young Jane was a child vaudeville singer and very famous for a time. However, she was a flash in the pan and it was her sister Blanche who went on to great success as an actress. Due to an automobile accident - for which Jane cops the blame, Blanche is paralysed from the waist down and she lives with Jane who terrorises her and drinks a lot. Jane's outrageous psycho antics include: serving up Blanche's parakeet for lunch, serving up a dead rat for lunch. Beating her defenceless sister up and tying her to the bed, cutting off Blanche's access to the world, to top off this madness, Jane gets an idea into her head that she is going to stage a comeback. Seeing Bette Davis, caked in make up and dressed like a little girl singing 'I've Written a Letter to Daddy' is a repulsive spectacle. Eventually Jane just goes totally deluded and bonkers, but not before taking Blanche along for the ride. Baby Jane is such a good character. She is not in her right mind and she is permanently pissed as a newt. As her sister knows, she should be locked up but Jane is wily and knows he sister wants to put her away. There is a twist ending which may explain some of Jane's mental peculiarities.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
