20 Greatest Opening Scenes In Horror Movie History
17. Ghost Ship (2002)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22XdYRbFHoEThe Movie: A salvage crew that discovers a long-lost 1962 passenger ship floating lifeless in a remote region of the Bering Sea soon notices, as they try to tow it back to land, that “strange things” happen.
The Opening Scene: The proceedings begin on the film’s titular ship, as a large group of people are partying aboard it, when suddenly, an unseen entity slowly pulls some razor wire taught, causing it to constrict on the entire collective. They all stand still, absolutely stunned for a few moments, before they all begin to fall to pieces, having been sliced at the waist by this razor-sharp wire. The only survivor left is a young girl who was too short to be diced by it, but she gets to watch in horror at the bloodbath that occurs around her.
And with that, an everyday piece of cruise liner equipment becomes the grisly device of massacre and the apparatus of one of the greatest death scenes in horror cinema. Pretty much everything that follows is absolutely lame by comparison.
