The Movie: Tobe Hooper's Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a landmark low-budget horror movie which must be considered a modern classic. The film can, and will, be reinterpreted by critics and theorists for decades to come. Though, the movie tells a fairly simple tale at heart - a group of five teenagers driving through rural Texas happen upon a deranged, cannibalistic family - psychological terror exudes in abundance.

The Opening Scene: Another film that wastes no time perfectly setting the tone, in its opening moments, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre combines a radio broadcast, two dead bodies and one of the most sickening sound effects in cinematic history to firmly illustrate how unsavory the following experience will be.

In the years since Texas Chain Saw first hit theaters, there have been countless imitators, sequels and reboots. Yet as loved and influential as the original classic has been, many who would seek to emulate its vision seem to overlook its true strengths.
