20 Greatest Revenge Movies Of All-Time

1. Once Upon A Time In The West

Paramount Pictures

So here it is: the greatest revenge movie ever made, which also happens to be one of the best (and most beautiful) movies ever made, too. Sergio Leone made his name with a series of awesome westerns starring Clint Eastwood and his iconic "Man With No Name" character, of course, but it was with his last true western, the epically titled Once Upon a Time in the West, in which he made his greatest statement as a director.

An operatic masterpiece of the utmost quality and cinematic merit (something made so by way of Ennio Morricone's unforgettable score), Once Upon a Time in the West hinges on a mysterious Harmonica-playing gunslinger (Charles Bronson) and his quest for revenge against a notorious outlaw (Henry Fonda), who find themselves connected through a former prostitute (Claudia Cardinale) and a bandit (Jason Robards).

To list everything great about Once Upon a Time in the West would take up far too many paragraphs, but suffice to say this is the most gripping, enigmatic, thrilling and beautiful revenge movies ever made; indeed, revenge provides just one of its many plotlines, but it is also the driving force that gives the picture purpose. It is mythical in both size and legacy; a masterpiece that paints the subject of vengeance as a long, gruelling, dangerous and cathartic process; as a result, it also features the greatest "flashback" in all of cinema.
