20 Greatest Sidekicks In Film History

19. Fanny - Dummy

Fanny (short for Fangora, which is only one of her many issues) is the well-meaning but totally unstable best friend of Steven, and she's played with a surprising vulnerability by Milla Jovovich. You want to dislike her because she's really, really good at screwing things up, but she has the best of intentions and tries so hard to do things for her friend and they just don't work out. So you end up feeling kind of bad for her. For example, she decides that women like to listen to classical music, so when Steven has a date coming up with Lorena, she shoplifts a CD for him. Only it ends up being a compilation of marches by John Philip Sousa which doesn't exactly put a lady in the mood. It's that kind of thing. But she values their friendship so much, and is constantly trying to make sure that Steven lives up to his potential, so it's easy to see why both he and the audience forgive her.
