20 Greatest Video Game Movie Moments EVER

11. The Parachute Escape - Tomb Raider (2018)

Mortal Kombat
Warner Bros.

2018's Tomb Raider reboot adapted several key moments from Crystal Dynamics' 2013 video game reboot, most memorably - and exceptionally - the sequence where Lara (Alicia Vikander) escapes from a crashed plane.

After falling into a waterfall to evade her attackers, Lara clings to the wreckage of a plane conveniently braced right on the edge of said waterfall.

Using her acrobatic skills, she manages to leap aboard the increasingly rickety vessel and cut loose her restraints, even as parts of the plane begin to break off and fall into the watery abyss below.

Just as she's about to fall through the cockpit to her death, however, she manages to grab a parachute, taking it with her as she drops through the air. Lara pulls the rip-cord just in time, but the damaged chute can only cushion her landing into the nearby forest so much.

Compare this scene to the video game equivalent and it's clear that director Roar Uthaug made a concerted effort to replicate its visual style in as meticulous a manner as possible.
