20 Greatest Video Game Movie Moments EVER

14. Goombas In The Elevator - Super Mario Bros. (1993)

100 years from now when we're all dust, society will still be trying to make sense of 1993's live-action Super Mario Bros. movie, which for all of its impressive production elements, just doesn't work as an adaptation of the classic video game. Like, not at all.

Embraced on its own terms as an acid-trip fantasy adventure, though, it isn't without its pleasures, and nothing in this movie is more deranged good fun than the Goombas.

Sure, they look absolutely nothing like their video game counterparts, but their teeny tiny reptilian heads and gigantic bodies made them an easy hit with kids all the same.

And they got their brightest moment to shine later in the movie, when Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) end up in a Goomba-filled elevator and need to find a way out.

Luigi realises that the Goombas have a fondness for dancing, and so starts gently rocking them back and forth to the elevator music, until they all start dancing with one another, giving the plumbers precious seconds to escape.

Whatever drugs the filmmakers were on when they came up with this scene, it should probably be highly regulated.
