20 Hidden Comedy Gems To Watch On Netflix

12. Harold And Maude

If dark and twisted comedies aren't your cup of tea, then Hal Ashby's seminal film Harold And Maude might be one to give a miss. This is a comedy with a serious undertone which will only appeal to those with a taste for gallows humour. If, however, you're okay with rather twisted jokes about intergenerational romances and running gags about teenage suicide then you might want to put this on your Netflix list of comedies to watch. Harold (played by Bud Cort) is obsessed with death, but when he meets 79-year-old Maude (Vivian Pickles) a relationship blossoms as she shows him how to open up and savour the world around him, rather than retreat further into his emotional shell. If you have a stomach for morbid humour, watching Harold commit "suicide" in a variety of inventive ways is deliciously dark fun. Harold And Maude might be unusual but its eccentric take on life will certainly stick in your mind.
