20 Hidden Comedy Gems To Watch On Netflix

11. The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad!

It's hard to think of a comedy released in recent years which approaches the genre in the same chaotic, slapstick manner as The Naked Gun movies - bumbling police detective Frank Drebin's first big screen outing is full of enough puns and visual gags to fill an entire comedy TV series. Leslie Nielsen's central performance as Frank Drebin holds the proceedings together about as effectively as a piece of string on a broken airplane wing - the plot is besides the point, since this is all about keeping the crass, stupid and often hilarious jokes coming at the audience as quickly as possible. On occasion the juvenile gags run the risk of derailing The Naked Gun, but these are offset with some clever satirical swipes at American politics and culture, and there are plenty of neat references thrown in for the eagle-eyed film buff to keep an eye out for.
