7. Emil Meet Emil

Where Man Of Steel really dropped the ball was its supporting characters. For a film coming in at a bladder-punishing two and a half hours, it was content only developing a handful of its key players. This meant that come the final confrontation, we had little involvement with the army men giving their lives to save the day. And its likely also why this little piece of trivia has gone so unnoticed. In Man Of Steel Richard Schiff plays Professor Emil Hamilton, a role with no distinction other than not being as gung-ho as the other army types. As with many characters, a Smallville counterpart exists, played by Alessandro Juliani. Not that interesting, until you realise Juliani is also in Man Of Steel, playing the even more nondescript Sergeant Sedowsky. You can imagine there was some irritation towards Schiff about him bagging the (marginally) meatier role.
6. Days Since Last Accident

In his final battle with Zod, Superman finds himself in a work in progress skyscraper, where the Kryptonian general taunts Kal-El in the most inoffensive manner. I was trained all my life to be a warrior! Where did you train, a farm? Why yes. Yes he was. Thats not the only bemusing thing about this scene, however. When the two first crash into the building, Supes is thrown into the classic X Days Since The Last Accident sign. Most likely a humorous admittance on the over the top scale of the destruction, were still wondering what the number of days (143 fact fans) means. The original Superman movie was 143 minutes long and Superman #143 was the issue where an obituary to creator Bob Kane was printed, but this seems a little stretched. Solutions on a postcard please. Probably just a random number, the sign is still a funny joke.
