20 Hidden Horror Gems On Netflix

Apostle is a weird movie. Sitting somewhere between period drama and supernatural horror, it tells the tale of a man who attempts to find his kidnapped sister after being ransomed by a deeply religious cult on a remote island, infiltrating their group to learn what exactly is going on, and how exactly he can free her. Both of those things turn out to be a lot more complicated that they initially seem.

Considering Netflix's original movies can be very hit or miss compared to their stellar TV shows, Apostle stands out from the crowd as a harrowing, dark film that weaves suspense tightly against some brutal violence. Whilst it remains more mystery than not by the end of the film, that's part of its grim charm.
