5. Ravenous
No, this isn't the 1999 film featuring a group of rabid cannibals out in the bitter cold of Nevada, but a French-Canadian effort about exactly what you'd expect from a title such as Ravenous. Zombies, of course.
Considering the plague they are on the horror film industry, it's no surprise they've made their way out to rural Quebec, where survivors must band together in the hopes of finding solace at a nearby city. The hopelessness that comes with traversing through the country only to find more situations reflective of their own is never-ending, producing a story that becomes more and more desperate as the film goes on.
Ravenous is another in the giant pit of decay and disease narratives in the genre, but at its heart is a tightly wound story that dissects humanity as much as it does the undead.
