3. Dumplings (2004)

This shocker from Hong Kong director Fruit Chan started out as one third of horror anthology Three… Extremes - alongside Park Chan-wook’s Cut and Takashi Miike’s Box - before being expanded into a full-length feature.

It centres on an ageing actress (Miriam Yeung) who, in a vein effort to stay looking younger, visits a mysterious chef (Bai Ling) who has a dumpling recipe that has, shall we say… a special ingredient.

To say anymore would be to spoil the gag-inducing surprise, but there's a good chance your guess would be on the right lines.

Needless to say it’s not a film you’ll forget in a hurry, one that provides as much creepy horror that'll make your stomach churn and the hairs stand on end as it does fascinating social commentary about the concept of beauty and growing old gracefully.
