20 Hidden Horror Movie Gems To Watch On Netflix

12. Dead Silence (2007)

This often unfairly overlooked ventriloquist dummy horror from the makers of the Saw and Insidious franchises follows a young widower (True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten) who returns to his childhood home to uncover the secrets behind his wife’s mysterious and brutal death.

He soon begins to suspect that her death is linked to Mary Shaw, a malevolent ventriloquist who died decades prior and whose legend terrorizes the town.

It taps into a very specific kind of fear so if you’re particularly unsettled by dolls that appear all-too-lifelike then this one will scare the bejesus out of you. It’s ultimately let down by a really stupid ending, which is why it’s not higher on this list, but for the most part it’s an wonderfully spine-chilling experience.
