Directing talent isnt necessarily hereditary, as anybody whos had the misfortune of watching a Jennifer (daughter of David) Lynch film will tell you. But one filmmaking dynasty where quality appears to run in the family is the Cronenbergs, with Brandon - son of body horror master David - has made a storming debut with 2012s Antiviral. Picking up on many of the recurring themes and ideas in his dads work (including the recent Map To The Stars), Antiviral extrapolates from the current cult of celebrity and takes it to a sickening, if plausible, degree: obsessive fans pay to be injected with the same illnesses and diseases as their favourite stars. With a mostly up-and-coming cast, the younger Cronenberg manages to craft a prophetic sci-fi chiller thats not that far from where we are now, stating his main inspiration came from a talk show interview with Sarah Michelle Gellar where she said she was sick and if she sneezed she'd infect the whole audience, and everyone just started cheering.
