20 Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises Ranked Worst To Best

9. Indiana Jones

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader
Lucasfilm

Worldwide box office: $1.9 billion.

Created by George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg, the original Indiana Jones trilogy is one of the finest you're ever likely to find, following the titular archaeologist adventurer as he travels the world stopping important historical artefacts from falling into the wrong hands.

Brought to life by a career-best Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones was created to pay homage to 1930s film serials, and Jones has since grown into one of the world's most famous movie heroes. Known for his quick wit, high intelligence, fear of snakes and iconic whip and hat, Jones has inspired numerous TV shows, comic books and games since his 1981 debut.

From the brilliant opening moments of Raiders of the Lost Ark to the epic bridge fight in Temple of Doom and the introduction of Sean Connery as Indy's father in The Last Crusade, the first three films in the franchise have stood the test of time to become some of the best action-adventure films in the world.

Despite the objective failure of the fourth film, a fifth movie is set to be released in 2022, meaning Jones will have been entertaining audiences for over forty years.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
