Worldwide box office: $23 billion.

The highest-grossing franchise in movie history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe comprises of twenty-four films, with countless more waiting on the horizon to add to its impressive back catalogue.

Once upon a time, hard as it is to believe, the thought of bringing the likes of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Incredible Hulk in one shared movie universe was considered a risky one, especially given its left-field casting decisions and Marvel's uninspired history of moviemaking.

But any worries people had were quickly cast aside once Iron Man debuted in 2008 and hooked audiences without fault.

Sure, any series that has over twenty films to its name is going to have some rough patches, and the MCU is no different, but between its perfectly pitched tone, unblemished storytelling, emotional payoffs and spotless ensemble (which at this point consists of basically everyone in Hollywood), it's been an absolute joy to watch through every twist and turn.

The best part about the MCU, though? Thirteen years in, and it's showing no signs of slowly things down. You love to see it.
