20 Highest Grossing Movies of 2014 - Ranked From Worst To Best
14. The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies
As a direct result of stretching the 300 page source material into almost nine hours of cinema, each of Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies have suffered from poor pacing, uninteresting subplots and a myriad of one-dimensional supporting characters that have left audiences underwhelmed to say the least. However, at 144 minutes final chapter The Battle of the Five Armies is the shortest Middle Earth movie by some distance and the running time ultimately turns the movie into a more urgent, propulsive and entertaining entry in the franchise than its predecessors In the final movie of Peter Jackson's epic six-movie saga Martin Freeman is once again superb as Bilbo Baggins, there are some crunching battle scenes and even some tender character moments, but as a whole the movie suffers from many of the same problems as its predecessors; the reliance on CGI and greenscreens over practical effects give the whole thing an over-produced and soulless sheen, much of the ensemble cast have very little to do which makes it impossible to care about their fate, and there's plenty of unnecessary foreshadowing to the vastly superior The Lord Of The Rings, which was probably only included in an effort to release an ultimate six-movie box set.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
