1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Chart Position: 1st Worldwide Gross: $1,780,702,874 (and climbing) Its the third highest grossing movie of all time (in under a month since it was released, no less), and its undoubtedly going to become the highest grossing film ever made, so naturally, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, finishes the year in first place on the worldwide chart, a position it mirrors here. This was never in doubt. But it earns truly earns its top spot here, far and away the most satisfying, enjoyable, down right spine-tingling blockbuster released in 2015 (and maybe the decade). J.J. Abrams renewal of the franchise (and what a year its been for the idea of The Franchise, by the way) delivered fully on what fans wanted, creating a whole new generation of them in the process. As Ive said before, I fully expect Episode VII to have the same impact that the original Star Wars had all those years ago. A nostalgic experience, The Force Awakens has indeed reawakened a saga left in the doldrums after the polarising prequel trilogy, and it's done it by making record-breaking money in the process. This is a masterpiece of genre filmmaking and franchise mythology, and its the best Top 20 film of the year as a consequence.
