20 Highest Grossing Movies Of 2016 - Ranked Worst To Best

3. Captain America: Civil War

Suicide Squad
Marvel Studios

Box Office: $1.153 billion (#1)

The year's highest-grossing movie (to date, anyway) isn't much surprising, given the irresistible premise of seeing The Avengers duke it out on-screen.

With impressive moral ambiguity that allows Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. to give more emotional, tortured performances, Civil War is a thoroughly enjoyable superhero flick that balances light and dark extremely well.

Even if the famed airport sequence were the only action scene in the entire movie, it'd be enough to make Civil War one of the year's most brilliantly bombastic films. That it's also bursting with heart and brimming with thought makes it all the more alluring.

And how awesome were Spider-Man and Giant-Man, right?
