20 Huge Movie Characters Who Barely Spoke To Each Other
4. Sue Storm & Ben Grimm - Fant4stic
The Fantastic Four: First Steps may not have been as big a home run as could have been expected from the family's first appearance under the Marvel Studios banner, but there can be no denying it was light-years ahead of 2015's Fant4stic.
You could pick absolutely any aspect of Fox's final attempt at getting Marvel's First Family right and have a lengthy discussion about why it was so bad, and in this entry it is the fact that at no point did they actually feel like a family at all. The worst example of this is the dynamic between Sue Storm and Ben Grimm (Kate Mara and Jamie Bell).
Typically, Ben is seen as just as much a brother to Sue as Johnny, and an integral part of the family. In Fant4stic however, he and Sue never actually properly met. He was out of shot when Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey) introduced his daughter to Reed Richards (Miles Teller), and she wasn't there when Reed called him in to travel to Planet Zero.
Even after they got their powers, the two did not cross paths until the final battle pitted the Fantastic Four against Doom (Toby Kebbell), and even then they didn't speak. This was a result of the franchise trying to take the Fantastic Four into grim (no pun intended) and gritty Dark Knight territory, which is fundamentally against the entire fabric of the team. They weren't a family, Ben was essentially just tagging along as Reed's friend.
