20 Hugely Unexpected Roles In Upcoming Movies

17. Kristen Wiig (The Martian)

The Role: Annie Montrose, NASA's PR woman, something of a comic relief character in the novel but also a strong woman who gets things done with her fierce personality. Why It's Unexpected: Wiig has shown in recent years what she can do on the dramatic stage in indie dramedies such as The Skeleton Twins and Welcome to Me, though few probably expected her to end up in a Ridley Scott-directed hard sci-fi film quite so soon. Will It Work?: Definitely. She looks the part in the trailer released so far, and given that Annie is a mix of comedy and seriousness, that should play fantastically to her strengths. Though it's not a huge role, don't be surprised if she earns some of the best reviews from the massive ensemble.
