20 Idiotic Decisions Made By Characters In The Harry Potter Films

16. Harry And Ron€™s Decision To Steal The Flying Car

The flying Ford Anglia. How many violations of Ministry laws can we total on this one? Arthur should have lost his Ministry job over this, as just the simple act of enchanting the car to fly is something of a huge offence in the Ministry's eyes. Molly Weasley€™s Howler to Ron indicates that he does face an inquiry, but there€™s no word on what happens after that. Fred, George and Ron using the car to rescue Harry? The Ministry of Magic can detect the use of illegal magic by juveniles, and use it to charge Harry with illegally producing a Patronus Charm in the presence of a Muggle (Dudley) in The Order of the Phoenix. Yet no-one from the Ministry comes to check when a flying car pulls out the burglar bars at the Dursley home? Truly baffling. Finally, Ron convinces Harry that since the platform at the train station has sealed them off, they should take the car to Hogwarts. First, it would have been simpler and wiser just to wait. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley would have noticed that Ron and Harry weren€™t on the train, and would come back out to look for them. Second, Harry has Hedwig, who can fly a message to Hogwarts explaining their situation. Even if Dobby had foiled both of these plans, someone would have noticed their absence and found them eventually. It's not like Harry is a famous person, after all.
