15. Wormtails Decision To Stay With The Weasleys After Sirius Black Escapes
Scabbers has been in the Weasley family for several years now. He was originally Percys rat; now hes been handed down to Ron. That makes it rather gross when we find out that Scabbers is actually Peter Pettigrew, a.k.a. Wormtail. Worse than that, hes the one who sold Lilly and James to Voldemort, then framed Sirius Black for the murder. Its obvious that Wormtail has been using his ability as an Animagus to keep his identity secret - since hes been declared dead, this is necessary. But once it was announced that Sirius had escaped from Azkaban, Wormtail should have immediately packed it off to find Voldemort. Yet he stays with Ron, even though Hermione has just acquired a pet cat that isnt fooled by his disguise. And even after he does leave Ron, where does he go? Hagrids cabin! Some might say it was because he was a rat instead of a human, and therefore had limited intelligence. Nope. He knew enough to stay with the Weasleys for news, and also to flee when it started to get dangerous for him.
