20 Idiotic Decisions Made By Characters In Quentin Tarantino Movies

16. Louis Impulsively Murders Melanie (Jackie Brown)

One of the more hilariously demented scenes from Tarantino's filmography occurs in the third act of his underrated crime caper Jackie Brown, as Louis (Robert De Niro) becomes aggravated that he can't remember where he parked his car after Melanie (Bridget Fonda) picks up the supposed cash drop from Jackie (Pam Grier). In the parking lot, Melanie continually mocks Louis and wonders how he ever managed to pull off a bank robbery with such a poor memory, to the point that he warns her to stop speaking. "Don't say one f***ing word, OK?", says Louis, to which Melanie simply replies, "OK, Louis." This is enough to push Louis completely over the edge, and he quickly opens fire, shooting her to the ground. As if that wasn't enough, he fires another bullet in her (off screen), presumably to finish the job. Now, Louis is a classic Tarantino knucklehead character, but even so, killing another human being... in broad daylight... for taunting you a little bit? Furthermore, Melanie appeared to realise he was aggravated and said her "OK" without any hint of sarcasm or ill will, but all Louis heard was her mouth open, and he apparently couldn't control himself. The joke's on him, as upon hearing this, Ordell (Samuel L. Jackson) is not best pleased (as Melanie lived with him), and combined with the fact that he realises Jackie has ripped them off, is enough for Ordell to shoot him dead in the car.
