20 Incredible Facts You Didn't Know About 2020's Biggest Movies

10. The Story Is Inspired By Director Dan Scanlon's Own Life - Onward

Freaky movie
Pixar

Pixar's Onward is an affecting tale of two brothers racing to connect with their late father for just a single day, and despite the film's fantastical nature, it won't surprise too many that it has its roots in the real-life anguish of its filmmaker.

Co-writer-director Dan Scanlon lost his own father at a young age before he was old enough to remember him, and the seed for the movie sprang from discovering a recording of his father's voice, prompting him to consider who his father actually was.

Even for Pixar standards that's a pretty heavy piece of inspiration, and one that ensured the movie's emotional core felt completely genuine no matter its heightened world.
