The Sundance Film Festival is an annual movie mecca for studios to scoop up the fest's most talked-about movies, typically leading to buzzed-about projects selling for millions of dollars.

This year, time loop comedy Palm Springs ended up selling to Neon and Hulu for a record-breaking $17,500,000.69, making it the biggest sale ever made in the history of the fest, beating out Fox Searchlight's 2016 acquisition of The Birth of a Nation by 69 cents.

Crazier still, once bonuses were factored in, the deal reportedly ended up costing $22 million, which ultimately might've stung given that the film's theatrical release was hobbled for obvious reasons.

In the end its limited theatrical bow recouped less than $800,000 worldwide, though at least it was a massive hit on Hulu.
