Despite taking place entirely in China, Disney's live-action Mulan remake was actually filmed largely in New Zealand, taking full advantage of the nation's expansive, natural beauty.
Only a small portion of the shoot took place in China to ensure the film's geography accurately reflected the country, yet the production notably came under fire for filming in the province of Xinjiang, where internment camps containing up to a million Uyghur Muslims are also situated.
The news understandably sparked a public outcry on the eve of the movie's release, that Disney had co-operated with Chinese state officials responsible for establishing these camps.
