20 Incredible Film Performances That Didn't Get The Credit They Deserved
11. Jim Carrey - Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004)
It's a shame that Jim Carrey continues to churn out forgettable studio comedies when he is capable of being such a great dramatic actor. Despite being a two-time Golden Globe winner, both the best and most underrated performance of his career came in Michel Gondry's unique romance. In The Truman Show and Man on the Moon, Carrey was able to take himself off the leash in short bursts and deliver his signature manic energy. In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Canadian funnyman dials it right back to give an emotionally powerful, yet subtly restrained performance as the audience shares in his character's memories. Carrey did score another Golden Globe nomination for the role, but most of the awards season plaudits were taken by Kate Winslet's memorable performance and the movie's incredible script. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is rightly regarded as a modern classic, but Jim Carrey's incredible turn as Joel Barish is one of the most overlooked in recent memory.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
