1. The Help/The Exorcist
This pairing is laughably bizarre in how radically different and completely un-connected these two movies are. The Help is a fun and important historical drama about race equality while The Exorcist is a movie that features some of the most appalling and horrifying scenes in the history of cinema. From the possession of little Regan MacNeal to the very unholy acts that are performed throughout The Exorcist it proves itself as one of the most intense movies ever made. Why then would I put these two together? Well, one night I watched The Help because I kept hearing about how amazing it was and once it was over I was in the mood for a film in one of my favorite genres so I reached for my director's cut of The Exorcist. I can't fully explain it but for some reason these two films worked very well together for me if only for the stark contrast. The tonal difference made me enjoy each one more than I would have if I had just watched them separate because it made me appreciate just how diverse the medium of cinema can be. For any avid fan of film like myself this is one of the best double bills out there and I highly encourage you to try it for yourself.
