'71 takes place over a single night in the life of a young British soldier (Jack O'Connell) accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1971. Wounded, lost and terrified, he becomes a pawn caught up in power struggles between and within opposing factions in a brutal, senseless conflict. Directed by Yann Demange, '71 has been praised by many critics as the best war film in years. Not to mention that Jack O'Connell is currently being hailed as the next big thing, actor wise. Sample review (via Digital Spy):
"'71 is a movie that stays with you long after you've left the cinema. A fascinating, powerful and immensely thrilling masterpiece, it functions perfectly as both a gripping 'cat and mouse' style thriller and a harrowing time capsule of the conflict in Northern Ireland."
