Originally published in 1974, post-apocalyptic novel Z For Zachariah was first adapted by BBC television in the mid-1980s. The new version of the story, meanwhile, promises to be a much starrier affair. It stars Margot Robbie as a girl who's survived a nuclear war in a remote valley, and assumes that she's the only survivor until other survivors (Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine) stumble upon her safe zone and cohabitation creates dangerous problems. Z For Zachariah, written by Robert C O'Brien and published after his death, is a low-key and bleak novel, and it's interesting to see it being given the big-screen treatment. There have clearly been a few changes in the process of adaptation, so film-goers will have to wait and see how much of O'Brien's story will remain intact. Sample review (via TwitchFilm):
"This modern parable straddles dexterously the line between a heavy ideas film and one that provides an emotional barrage, an effort that firmly establishes Zobel as one of the more dynamic and exhilarating directors working today."
