20 Indie Movies That Will Rule 2015

1. It Follows

With a rare intelligence, David Robert Mitchell's first feature, The Myth Of The American Sleepover, captured a group of teenagers over the course of a long summer weekend. At times, the 2011 release evoked nostalgia for the limited goals of a young mind. For his sophomore effort, It Follows, Mitchell returns to that subject from a perspective that at first may seem like a radical change of direction, since it finds him working within the constrains of the horror genre. In the film, emerging Scream Queen Maika Monroe stars as Jay, a 19-year-old who, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, begins to be plagued by strange visions and the unavoidable feeling that someone - or something - is following her. The premise may sound simple enough, but if the streams of critics hailing the film as a "modern horror masterpiece" is any indication, genre fans can expect something quite unique and quite fear-provoking. Sample review (via Crave Online):
"If you take nothing else away from It Follows, it should be that Mitchell€™s measured camera movements and dedication to slow burn scares with big, terrifying payoffs are worth the price of admission alone. That It Follows also evokes genuine real-life anxieties for the ultimate in audience involvement is particularly tasty gravy."
