20 Indie Movies That Will Rule 2016

11. La La Land

Director: Damien Chazelle Starring: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, J.K. Simmons ReleaseDate: July 15th, 2016 After his surprise smash hit, Whiplash (one of the best films of 2014), director Damien Chazelle will again look to a musical drama to continue his ascent as one of America€™s best young filmmakers. Starring Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist who falls for actress Emma Stone, the film will reunite the pair for the third time, the couple previously starring (and falling in love together) in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad. Whiplash won three Oscars at the 2015 Academy Awards, including one for J.K. Simmons (as Best Supporting Actor) - the others were for Best Sound Mixing and Best Editing, while the film was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay - who again features here. Both he and Chazelle will look to build upon their work in Whiplash in what looks to be one of the most anticipated features, indie or not, of 2016.
