Slacker is a hard film to sum up. Essentially, it follows a number of young adult characters as they discuss everything from the JFK conspiracy to sex to UFOs to unemployment to music to the media and everything in between. A seemingly plotless, loosely-structured film, Slacker captured the attitude of a generation of misfits. Made for only $23,000 the film was picked up for distribution by Orion Classics and although it never received a wide release it has gone on to become a cult classic. Director Richard Linklater has went on to work with the studios but has never lost his independent spirit. Cited by Kevin Smith as the inspiration for Clerks, since it looked like a movie he could do and didn't realise movies could be made in this way.
