The trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron opens with a shot of a bald woman in a cave. Who was she? Madam Hydra? Moondragon? Hela? The Enchantress? An ally to Ultron? A villainess set up for a future film?

When Marvel fans finally saw Age of Ultron, they noticed this mysterious character was entirely absent from the film. So where was she? And more importantly, WHO is she?

The answer lies in the original cut. After suffering an apocalyptic vision, Thor was meant to seek council from The Norns; a group of prophetic women who are similar to the Fates of Greek myth. One Norn would lead Thor to a pool of water, which would allow him to see his vision with more clarity.

Because the first cut of Age of Ultron was a bum-numbing 215 minutes, Joss Whedon had to cut 45 minutes, including 30 minutes of Thor's scenes. Whedon said he didn't want the cave scene in the first place because the shots of the Infinity Stones came across as sequel-bait. Unfortunately, the producers forced him to put it into the movie to build up the sequel, Infinity War.
