20 Ludicrous Ways To Die In A Horror Film

2. Brain Damage (Frank Henenlotter, 1988)

Aylmer1 One day Brian wakes up hallucinating with blood all over his sheets and a giant hole in his neck. He has no idea what happened until something slithers up from his stomach and out through his neck-hole. The thing looks like a little black and blue parasitic turd with a brain that speaks with excellent diction, and calls itself Aylmer. Aylmer- the age old awe inspiring muse- tells Brian that "it's the start of your new life" and how he's "all ever need", while talking to him from a bucket of water. He wasn't really lying when he made the latter comment, because after asking to be put back into Brian's neck, Aylmer opens his mouth, exerts a syringe-like stinger, and injects Brian with a highly addictive blue liquid that seems to be an extremely potent psychedelic. It turns out, that it's a quid pro quo situation. Aylmer gets Brian crazy high, but Brian needs to find Aylmer the brains that he needs to consume in order to survive.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgwNdLaaqGs At one point, while Brian is out tripping in a junkyard, he alerts a security guard who tries and arrest him. But before he's able to, Aylmer jumps onto his forehead and sucks his brain right out through his skull! But that's not even the funniest kill. Later, he's at a rock show, where he picks up a chick. They start to make out, and she takes him into an alley. When she's goes to pull his dick out so she can give him a blo**ob....Aylmer pop's out like an erect penis with Brian forcing her to deepthroat him while Aylmer sucks her brains out right through her mouth. One of the best kills ever!!!! Frank Henenlotter is responsible for directing a number of classic independent horror films. He only made a few, but they are all pretty great...in a similarly ridiculous way. He's probably best known for his earlier works like Basketcase and the later Frankenhooker...but I'd have to say that Brain Damage is definitely his masterpiece.

I enjoy writing learning, reading and writing about politics, film, and punk related issues. I hit shows in TO pretty often and look forward to checking out new films at TIFF every September.
