It’s long been posited by Ridley Scott fans that Alien and Blade Runner occupy a shared universe, and a little gem spotted by hawkeyed movie mavens certainly adds weight to that theory.

At the end of Alien when Ripley is making her escape in Nostromo’s shuttle Narcissus with her pet cat Jones a screen flashes up on the shuttle’s monitor reading ‘ENVIRON CTR PURGE 24556 DR 5’ and, funnily enough, that very same screen appears on the control system of the flying police car Deckard is taken away in by Gaff towards the beginning of Blade Runner.

Some suggest the recycled footage was merely a money-saving move considering Blade Runner went way over its initial budget, but theories of a shared universe persist nonetheless. Perhaps with the release of both Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049 this year, we’ll find more definitive proof of a connection.
