Way back in Season 4 of The Walking Dead when Tara and a still alive Glenn were making their way through a walker infested railroad tunnel a zombie wearing a rather distinctive red checked shirt, denim jacket and neck collar rocked up with a group of his undead friends and almost devoured the pair.

Although the suspiciously Bub-like walker wasn’t played by original actor Howard Sherman, there’s no doubt that the episode’s director Greg Nicotero – who got his start in the industry working on Day of the Dead – intended to pay tribute to Romero’s sentient zombie Bub.
